Khatas for Peace One Thread, One World, One Peace This is my Saori version of a Tibetan Khata (”a traditional ceremonial scarf used in Tibet and Mongolia. It symbolizes goodwill, auspiciousness and compassion” - Wikipedia). The scarf is woven of a simple white cotton thread. I have used the Saori technique of grouped weft and skipped dents to give the scarf a variation in texture as we are all different. In December 2007 there was a day for "International Climate Change Action". On Salt Spring Island, there was a gathering at ArtSpring with presentations, music and information on what we can do in our own lives and in the community. The same day I was at another event with my Saori loom and so we made a banner for "Climate Change Action". See my blog posts below for more details. International Climate Change Action Day

Peace Banner 2006
Thank you to everyone who contributed and participated in Weaving a Banner for Peace in 2006! The first Peace Banner was finished on August 12, 2006 and is now on display at the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre in Downtown Vancouver, BC.
This first Peace Banner,
woven in SAORI style,
has many stories to it.
Over 100 people, women, men and children, from all over the world
have added their own weaving with wishes, thoughts, dreams or prayers for peace to it.
The Peace Banner started in Vancouver, at the World Peace Forum, where there were people from all across Canada from the USA, from India, Japan, Yugoslavia, Mexico, and many other countries. The Peace Banner then travelled to a SAORI conference in Worcester, MA, where SAORI weavers from Japan and across the USA and Canada added to the banner. The banner was then finished here on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada with weaving done by many more people. If you are one of the people who have done some of the weaving, please contact me me with any comments, photos or stories that you have about Weaving the Peace Banner. Also, if you are interested in the creation of another Peace Banner, please let me know, as this will be the first of many banners for Peace.
Thank you to:
Weaving the Peace Banner
"The SAORI way is to weave friendships as we weave fabric. SAORI bridges differences between people, and celebrates both our variety and our common humanity."
Weaving A Tapestry of Faith
122 students, plus staff, parents, principals and a visiting Bishop created this banner as a way to celebrate a week of learning about "Weaving a Tapestry of Faith" and weaving faith into our everyday lives. More details about the project on my blog
