Postcards from the Edge - Lake Louise Poppies The edge of Lake Louise has a beautiful array of poppies that I have used as inspiration. The green stems are done in an icicles technique with bits & pieces laid in for the flowers. The Salt Spring Fibre Festival has a Postcard Challenge this year: “This year the Festival is planning a display of post-card-size ‘samplers’ – created in any natural fibre, using any technique (woven, knit, crocheted, felted, quilted…), in any style, and illustrating any story a creative fibre worker could want to tell. This is a great opportunity to experiment on a small scale!” www.fibrefestival.com So, I decided to create Postcards for it. I wanted to take the “Postcard” part literally, though that was not a requirement, and wondered how to do the finishing. After trying a number of methods, I used iron on woven interfacing that I could write on for the backing.
The Postcards From the Edge theme came about when I started using the icicles (interlocking weft) coming in from the edge of the postcard. In creating the backing, I have left that selvedge edge as woven to give the edge a more natural look.

Saori Top Study in Greens Table Runner Dragonflies and the whole shirt Blog enry: SAORI Weaving - A Pocket full of Dragonflies Steppes Shawl (SOLD) Inspired by a recent trip to Patagonia, this shawl incorporates "Steppes" using interlocking weft. SAORI Vest This vest is an asymetric SAORI vest. It was woven with various cottons in shades of reds, blues and purples. The icicles technique of interlocking weft was used for the colour variations.
Using the 'icicles' technique in a SAORI wall hanging. This is an exhibit at ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island. The Salt Spring Weaver's and Painter's guilds collaborated on putting together a show. A painter and weaver paired up to create an exhibit of their combined works. elehna de sousa and I created this work called "She Emerges". This speaks to the transition place between tides where "She (the Ocean Priestess) Emerges". The scarf was woven with interlocking warp and weft to show the transition from the deep blue sea, through the tides and up onto the sand. Click on image to see close-up of scarf - and for more detail of the show - read my blog: She Emerges - from "An Eye for Colour"
Healing Shawl The creation of this Healing Shawl was inspired by my Saori style of weaving. It used to be that I would choose a yarn, choose a pattern and sit and crochet until I was finished a project. For this shawl, I chose different yarns and put them in as it felt right. I created my own pattern based on the number 4 - the four seasons, the four directions, the four winds and so on. It was very contemplative to crochet and it was a joy to watch it unfold.
