Inspired by India Flint and her wonderful book Eco Colour, by the various Fibresheds happening (also here), things I’ve been reading, thinking and dreaming about – I have started a series of Fibreshed explorations.
100 Mile radius around Salt Spring Island…
I am weaving with local wool – unspun (locks & roving), handspun and mill spun (Gulf Islands Spinning Mill).
I have been collecting some local plant material including cedar and arbutus and am now soaking it and will see what happens. I have the cedar in an aluminum pan…

and the arbutus bark in stainless steel…

So far, I have just done one small section of weaving and will try it in one of the dye baths and report back! I have so many ideas…

Happy Weaving,
Terri

That book was so inspiring that I opened it and promptly onsold it. Only cause it scared me so much – I could see a whole new time suck opening up in front of me
I’ll be watching to see what bubbles away with your lovely part of the world.
Oooh…. love the photos, and looking so forward to seeing what unfolds for you! 100 miles of color and texture- how magical! Happy spinning, dyeing and weaving!
So glad I’m going to be out there! It will be most interesting to watch the process and then see what comes out of the dye pots!!
I like how the exuberance of your explorations is expressed in that weaving. And that from my seeing photos; actually touching it must feel vibrant.
