I still have more to tell and more photos from Japan, but thought I’d jump back to Salt Spring with some photos from Saturday…
We went down to Idol Beach today for lunch at low tide. We call it Idol Beach because we can see Idol Island from it (don’t know if there is a different name for the beach). It’s quite close to home and just a short walk from the road and one of our favourite places for a little break (and to remember that we live so close to the water!).
Here’s Idol Island…

there are some great rocks to sit on - to read, to have lunch, to relax - and they have quite interesting features …
and purple starfish …
and eagles too!
Oh - and so here is my woven mobius - no beginning and no end and no cutting or sewing. I finally learned how to do this when I was in Japan and made this scarf at the Osaka Studio.
I’ve been wearing it a lot.

I’ve not seen any instructions anywhere which is why it took me until I was in Japan to learn it personally and visually from someone. I had seen one before, but couldn’t figure out how to do it.

OK Now I have to make a trip to Salt Spring Island to learn this new technique. I am presently making another Bibby Bag as most stores are now charging for bags.

So glad you got back safely and had a good time! I will send you a picture of my vest soon. I keep changing it. I was so inspired by our time together that I got out all my weaving that wasn’t what it should be and started cutting and sewing. Two great bags as a result and a tea pot hat in the works.
I love the mobius scarf. How did you do it? Will you share on line or should it be another wonderful trip over to Salt Spring?

I know one way of weaving them… I wonder if that’s different than the way you learned in Japan….. hmmmm….. looking forward to hearing about your way!

Thanks all! The basics of the scarf are to take the beginning fringe of the scarf and turn it into weft and weave it back into the scarf at the end - warp becomes weft. For me the hands-on was what turned on the light bulb.
