The Salt Spring Fall Fair, A Map, and Saori Weaving

Today I was off to the Salt Spring Fall Fair for day 2. The Fall Fair is one of the big events on the island. A real old-tyme country fair with exhibits and entries from all ages in all kinds of categories. 4H animals, horse shows and sheep dogs, pottery, basket making, wood working, and more.

And….spinning and weaving of course. So I had my Saori loom at the fair with all of the spinning and weaving exhibits and the many Guild volunteers who were giving demos of spinning and Kumihimo braiding, kids were weaving spiders and so on. We had over 20 feet of a SAORI Peace Banner created at the fair - with more to come on September 21 - International Peace Day… Two days full of entertainment, food and fun.

I had an idea some time ago to make a t-shirt, saori style, with the map of Salt Spring on it. Salt Spring Island’s shape has always reminded me of a pteradactyl (sp?) - one of those prehistoric birds…..anyway, I decided to make it this morning so that I could wear it to the fair…..

So….here it is - with me looking a little tired after 2 full days at the fair!

The “pteradactyl (sp?)”/SSI design is truly inspired! I love the way you echoed the colors in the scarf you’re wearing. Most original!

    Peace,

Thanks Petra. I had this idea to put the map of Salt Spring onto a Saori-style t-shirt. The colour coordination just happened as they happen to be my favourite colours! And the blue of the shirt is the water around our island.

    Happy Weaving,
    Terri
