She Emerges ($495)

This is an exhibit at ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island. The Salt Spring Weaver's and Painter's guilds collaborated on putting together a show. A painter and weaver paired up to create an exhibit of their combined works.

elehna de sousa and I created this work called "She Emerges". This speaks to the transition place between tides where "She (the Ocean Priestess) Emerges".

The scarf was woven with interlocking warp and weft to show the transition from the deep blue sea, through the tides and up onto the sand. Click on image to see close-up of scarf - and for more detail of the show - read my blog:

I have completed a series of weavings that I call "The Directions".

The colours come from the Lakota teachings that I have received and as I explore their meanings, I have decided to create banners with my Saori weaving to represent each of the directions.

I have created four banners - one for the West (black), one for the South (white), one for the East (yellow) and one for the North (red). I know that many different traditions and cultures have different colours and meanings for the directions, but what I am doing is exploring those of my learning.
